Projectomschrijving

The populations of Labeobarbus species in Lake Tana are threatened due to intensive fishing. This modelling study will focus on the spatio-temporal dynamics of the populations based on reproduction, growth and mortality parameters determination. The outcomes will be used for determining a growth performance index of the fish species that can serve as a basis for a sustainable population control. As part of the research, also monitoring methods will be analysed and optimised, in particular the gillnet selectivity and efficiency will be determined. Moreover, the socio-economic relevance of Lake Tana fisheries will be determined based on ecosystem services analysis.
