Microbicides provide hopful perspectives for African regions with high HIV incidence and low comdom use. The expected impact of microbicides on HIV incidence and HIV prevalence remains unclear as it is context-specific and the demographics, behavioural and epidemiological features of the study population are often insufficiently known. Epidemiological models will evaluate the long-term impact of microbicides after additional context-specific data-retrieval and data-analysis.
