Project description

FunDive aims to maximize and highly applied impact by combining established, but hitherto isolated tools in innovative ways. We involve computer scientists, bioinformaticians, ecologists, conservation biologists, mycotaxonomists and citizen scientists to solve questions of scientific and societal importance. An important strength of the consortium is that it bridges research traditions and approaches to the recognition of species of fungi across Europe. This not only ensures the transfer and exchange of knowledge between regions, but also broadens the geographical scope of the work packages where this is central, i.e. WP type sequencing and designation, WP citizen science and WP environmental DNA for biodiversity approach. This broad geographical scope, which extends from the south of Portugal to Greece and in the north to Norway and Finland, will represent all biogeographical regions, with the exception of steppe regions, in Europe.
