Any object in marine waters is prone to undesirable growth, resulting in enormous negative impacts. The ocean itself may offer the solution: chitosan, derived from cheaply available chitinous waste from the seafood industry. The natural activity of chitosan will be boosted through scalable and sustainable chemical modification. Moreover, depolymerization of the modified derivatives via a sustainable procedure will be adapted.
