Project description

This project aims to further our knowledge about how molecular properties can be modified and finetuned by fluorination. The focus is on molecular conformation, and its resulting effects on lipophilicity, bioactivity, hydrogen bonding and crystal structure. Using small aliphatic molecules of pharmaceutical interest, and a number of important biomolecules such as carbohydrates, steroids, and certain amino acids, judicious fluorine introduction will be applied in order to study the resulting effects, with as aim to understand and rationalise the experimental outcomes. Where applicable, it is aimed to achieve formulation of guidelines to benefit the drug discovery process.
