Bio
Karolien De Bosscher is a molecular biologist who earned her Ph.D. from Ghent University (UGent) in 2000. Following postdoctoral research at Cancer Research UK, supported by an EMBO fellowship, she returned to Belgium to pursue nuclear receptor research as a postdoctoral fellow of FWO Vlaanderen.
In 2013, she obtained a research professorship at UGent, combining research and teaching. Since 2019, she has been a full professor at UGent and a principal investigator at the VIB Center for Medical Biotechnology.
Throughout her career, Prof. De Bosscher has focused on unraveling the complexity of nuclear receptors, with particular emphasis on anti inflammatory and anticancer mechanisms. Her team investigates selective glucocorticoid receptor modulation, the metabolic actions of nuclear receptors, and crosstalk mechanisms in hematological cancers.
The De Bosscher lab aims to decipher how nuclear receptors transduce signals, with the goal of developing innovative receptor targeting strategies for improved therapeutic outcomes. In addition, the team develops advanced cell based tools to capture nuclear receptor complexity, contributing to drug discovery platforms.
