Een belangrijk doel van statistiek is het analyseren van afhankelijkheid en associatie in een data set. De gegevens die momenteel gegenereerd worden om afhankelijkheidsstructuren, en de daarmee samenhangende onderzoeksvragen, te bestuderen, zijn vaak complex. Dit stelt ons voor de uitdagende taak om nieuwe modellen te ontwikkelen en bestaande modellen aan te passen.
