Projectomschrijving

The protective effect of the presence of multiple species in a biofilm bears similarity with the concept of "indirect pathogenicity", referring to the observation that the simultaneous presence and interaction of different microorganisms in an infection can lead to failure of antimicrobial therapy (18, 19). The main aim of the present proposal is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms involved in the "indirect pathogenicity" observed in polymicrobial biofilm communities.
