Project description

Late antique poetry can be compared to a mosaic composed of dazzling “tesserae”, obstructing an overall view. Nonnos’ Dionysiaka seems to be an excellent example. A structural, generic (Cairns’ Generic Composition) and rhetorical (based on ancient theory) analysis of single episodes from this Dionysiaka will lead to a better understanding of the “mosaic poetics” of contemporary Greek and Latin poetry.
