Sexual development (SD) is a normative developmental task during adolescence (Baams et al., 2014; Beyers et al., 2015). Recent research suggests that various SD trajectories exist (Beyers et al., 2016), but there is a lack of explanation for these individual differences. This project examines if and how SD is driven by a parenting, by a persons' temperament (Fisher et al., 2015) and sexual motivation, and is embedded within autonomy development at this age. By continuing longitudinal research and conducting new research, this project will pursue these objectives. Through comprehensive research methodology, contributions will be made to understanding SD during adolescence and the underlying factors influencing it. Potential (clinical) implications may be found in sexual education programs, guiding therapist, and creating an integrated model of SD during adolescence.
