Project description

The project aims to radically reconsider the traditional account of the history of the Mamluk sultanate (1250-1517). Via prosopographical research, it endeavours to demonstrate that only during the 15th centruy political traditions were created that were centered on the criterium of military slavery, suggesting that only from time onwards it makes sense to speak of a truly Mamluk sultante.
