Project description

The objective of the study programme is the education of environmental specialists with ample knowledge of (1) the concepts and issues associated with environmental pollution, (2) the detection and quantification of environmental contamination, (3) the possible impact of environmental pollutants on the ecosystems and biota, together with the current techniques for risk assessment, and (4) the available technologies for the prevention and remediation of environmental pollution and the way they are designed and applied in practice.

The programme of this Master following Bachelor is primarily oriented towards students from developing countries who hold responsible positions related to environmental issues within a (local) governmental institution, a university or a non-governmental organization. The programme is essentially structured around the following themes:

1/ basic study of non-polluted environments;

2/ sources and causes of environmental pollution;

3/ methodologies for detection and analysis of environmental pollution;

4/ environmental toxicology including the methodologies for risk assessment (both in the human and ecotoxicological field);

5/ prevention and abatement of environmental pollution;

6/ treatment of waste.
