We willen de theoretische en empirische voorwaarden onderzoeken voor evolutie door Darwinistische natuurlijke selectie versus Lamarckistische instructie. Deze laatstgenoemde, 'pre-Darwinistische' hypothese over biologische evolutie wordt momenteel weer in aanmerking genomen in de hedendaagse evolutionaire systeembiologie. We willen haar conceptuele en empirische verhouding tot natuurlijke selectie alsook de cruciale heuristische rol van de Weismann barrière hierin analyseren.
