Project description

The innovation goal of this project is to realize a thorough valorisation of digestate into existing and new bio-based fertilizers through process development and coupling of different technologies for nutrient recovery according to the cascade principle of maximum value retention: (i) anaerobic digestion (AD); (ii) ammonia stripping and scrubbing to new fertilizers based on citrate and carbonate; (iii) phosphate leaching and precipitation to calcium phosphate and struvite; and (iv) an integrated ecological economic analysis of the different value chains developed.
