This research project leverages multi-scale, multi-sensor, and multi-platform remote sensing data to develop operational tools for monitoring terrestrial ecosystems. By integrating advanced image processing techniques from artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision, we map vegetation cover, detect ecosystem disturbances, analyze time-series trends, and retrieve essential biophysical traits. While our primary focus lies in forest ecosystems—spanning tropical and temperate regions—we extend our research to diverse terrestrial landscapes, including drylands, peatlands, and urban ecosystems.
Our work provides valuable insights into ecosystem functioning under changing environmental conditions, supporting efforts in nature conservation and sustainable development. Through the use of cutting-edge Earth Observation (EO) technologies, we aim to enhance understanding of ecosystem dynamics, promoting informed decision-making for conservation and monitoring initiatives.
