Project description

Pancreaticobiliary diseases are associated with diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.  The course of acute and chronic pancreatitis ranges from mild to life-threatening, with currently no effective treatment to alter the course of the disease.  Focal pancreatic lesions can be benign, premalignant or malignant. The currently available diagnostic tests are still insufficient for differentiation.

Our unit performs clinical and translational research on pancreaticobiliary disease and the related endoscopic procedures.  We combine clinical and translational research projects.  Our clinical research includes prospective interventional studies, large international retrospective cohort studies and guideline development. Our translational research involves experimental mouse models of acute and chronic pancreatitis, and ex-vivo research on patient samples.

The basic research funding will support our research projects and hereby improve care of patients with pancreaticobiliary disease.
