Project description

The objective of this project is to develop and implement a new technological approach to realize “Smart Diapers” which solve the most important shortcomings we identified in current developments that have been published or are on the market.  Similar to other systems, we will work with a two-component system, consisting of a reusable electronic module, collecting, processing and transfering data wirelessly, and a disposable, printed, sensor part integrated into the diaper. Data are to be transferred to a cloud-based application for analysis, follow-up and feedback. The scope of this project is on the hardware realization of the diaper. The cloud infrastructure around the diaper will not be in the scope of this project, as already a lot of technologies and infrastructure exist. An overview of potential barrier and facilitators for smart diaper implementation by gathering in-depth feedback from users (both at patient and healthcare professional level) using state-of-the-art qualitative research methods will be done. The clinical input will be applied to optimise smart diaper designs to fit with the needs of patients, practitioners, and policy makers (health economics).
