Project description

The aim of this IOF StarTT project is to deliver an industrial proof of concept for application and subsequent valorization of biotechnologically produced pure and well-defined chitooligosaccharides (COS). More specifically, the project focuses on animal health as killer application for which we will assess the in vitro biological activity of several carefully selected microbial COS-molecules, aligned to the market needs. The close collaboration with other UGent research groups makes it possible to further mature our unique technology and knowledge. In addition, a first estimation of the financial benefit of these COS-molecules for animal health will be fed into a preliminary financial plan and commercial strategy. As a result, the obtained minimal viable concept for animal health will facilitate the incorporation of the foreseen spin-off company B-COS.
