Dit onderzoek focuste op mesothelioom, een asbestgerelateerde aandoening, ook gekend als longvlieskanker. Het resulterende proefschrift beschrijft de rol van drie nieuwe bloed eiwitmerkers, soluble mesothelin, megakaryocyte potentiating factor en osteopontin, in verschillende aspecten van het longvlieskankerbeleid: diagnose, screening, prognose en opvolgen van therapierespons.
