European eel can not reproduce in captivity. The natural stocks of elvers, the juvenile stage of eel, are, however, decreasing considerably requiring a sustainable solution. European expertise groups are gathered in this project, performing research on optimalisation of fertilization procedures, incubation conditions, genetics, microbiology, and others with as a final goal the ability of closing the reproduction cycle of eel.
