The research project aims at determining the most important instruments in the legal order which can give animal welfare a fair place in the balancing of interests, by adopting a functional comparative law approach. Such legal instruments could be, for instance, a constitutional right to animal welfare protection, an integration clause to take animal welfare into account in other policies, or the introduction of animal rights.
