We aim for a robust calculation method for the required connection capacity, with simultaneous efforts to exploit flexibility and avoid the need to increase connection capacity. Correct sizing and control of storage, together with smart management of (new) charging infrastructure, play a crucial role here. This research should lead to the establishment of clear technical guidelines for sizing storage and its operation.

The opportunity for thoughtful investments is obvious. By making well-considered choices in both RES and storage and EV parks, energy consumption can be optimised in function of tariff structures and flexibility products of the grid operators, leading to minimal energy bills The available assets must be smartly controlled to take optimal account of own consumption, the presence of RES and storage and, of course, dynamic energy tariffs. Given the significant variability in generation processes, we focus on controlling storage including intelligent charging infrastructures.
Thanks to EELab/Lemcko's extensive track record, we have a valuable network of companies with which we work closely. Within the project, our main goal is to collaborate with companies and develop concrete case studies. In these case studies, we will apply theoretical knowledge and implement new installations, supported by on-the-field measurements. Besides these field measurements, a demonstrator on a realistic scale will be built in our laboratory. This demonstrator emulates the combination of generation, consumption and storage, which contributes to realistic validation and the dissemination of knowledge and experience to the wider audience.
The knowledge gathered will be brought together in a practical guide and simulation tool, both powerful tools that will enable the target group to gain specific insights and realise optimal exploitation for their individual situation. Ultimately, they will be able to avoid the expansion of connection capacity while minimising electricity costs for their business.
