Project description
The humanities are undergoing a digital transformation, with AI creating opportunities to make heritage more accessible.
The FED-tWIN mandate of Prof. De Witte, with appointments at UGent-IDLab and the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium (RMFAB), serves as an ideal bridge between technical and cultural domains.
At IDLab-IMPACT, we use AI to enrich heritage objects and enhance interaction with them. Examples include AI-driven studies of plants across various media, such as paintings, herbaria, and photographs, as well as enriching images with pose information, including group dynamics and complex phenomena. Interaction is explored through AI workbenches for museums (using IIIF), multimodal search, and dialogue models (LLMs). We also study the interaction of AI and/or heritage objects with mental healthcare.
