De ontdekking in het Koninklijk Legermuseum van 53 historische luchtfoto’s van de regio Antwerpen tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog leidde tot een archeologisch-landschppelijk onderzoek van het wereldoorlog-erfgoed rondom Antwerpen. De historische luchtfoto’s werden gelokaliseerd, gegeorectificeerd en vervolgens werden alle zichtbare relicten gekarteerd. Op basis van deze resultaten werd in een tweede fase een veldprospectie ogpestart om de hedendaagse bewaring van de relicten te achterhalen.
