Project description

This project focusses on the development of high speed test benches for performance and HALT testing to accommodate the changing landscape of industrial and automotive machines which target ever increasing rotational speeds. Increased rotational speeds enable the increase of power density or increasing the speed range without the need for one or multiple gear reductions (direct drive). The commercial availability of test benches and components such as 800V SiC drives and torque sensors, is limited to 20krpm, while the demand for designing and testing up to 30krpm is becoming prevalent. A nominal DUT power rating of 120kW is targeted to align with medium power automotive drivetrains and the eRod vehicles whose acquisition is planned within the infrastructure plan. A maximum power rating of 200kW of the load motor is chosen to enable long duration overloading with the goal of accelerated lifetime testing.
