As imposed by DICT to increase cybersecurity, there is an urgent need to upgrade the software and hardware of RUPT's current most important analysis equipment, namely XPS. This XPS instrument is mainly used to (i) determine the elemental composition, (ii) to detect changes in the chemical states and (iii) to record depth profiles. It is the only technique to fully unravel the effectiveness of the plasma process on a material and helps in the optimization of this process. Unfortunately, updating the operating system comes with a parallel necessary update of the hardware which makes it impossible for the research group to cover this cost. Therefore, to continue the research within RUPT, to maintain the numerous existing local, national and international collaborations and to ensure the existence of an up-to-date XPS facility at UGent, granting this update is of paramount importance.
