The specificity of enzymes van be changed through enzyme engineering. However, enzymes are typically very specialised, which often causes classical approaches to fall short. Therefore, less specialised protein sequences will be reconstructed in this project, which can then be used as a starting point for further engineering. Using this strategy, glycosyltransferases will be converted to industrially relevant glycoside phosphorylases.
