Project description

Goal is to evaluate in how far precise isotope ratio determination using multi-collector ICP – mass spectrometry allows the provenance of metallic artefacts and other archeological findings to be revealed. Next to elements which have already proven their utility (Sr, Pb), also the capabilities of other elements (Cu, Zn and Sn), only displaying a very small natural variation in their isotopic composition, will be explored. Also determination of the trace element ‘fingerprint’ will aid in provenance determination. Due to the high value of the samples to be investigated quasi non-destructive approaches will be preferred.
