The modern system of science consists of several disciplines. The patterns of communication of a discipline are made possible by scientific periodicals. Publications can connect with each other communications can refer to each other (citations). By means of a comparison of the communication networks of two disciplines, one from the social sciences and one from the human sciences, this project aims to analyse the structural evolution of modern science.
