Project description

Through the principle of the systems approach, the overall aim is to offer growers a fully integrated package of measures and techniques to greatly reduce and control the wilt disease Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lactucae (Fol). Spread within and between farms should be avoided and farms with infestation should be made profitable again. This project aims to achieve 90% reduction of Fol in the sector. With the current legislation for chemical soil fumigation, Fol cannot be controlled. Traditional sail steaming does not completely kill the soil-borne pathogen. This project seeks sustainable alternatives. Varieties with immunity are not immediately available. This means that suppression of the disease will have to come from the combination of commonly known (e.g. general hygiene) and specifically researched disease-suppressive techniques
