Project description

Current liquid crystal switching modes are highly optimized for display applications. For many other applications (e.g. smart windows) these are not ideal and other types of modes need to be developed to fulfill specific requirements (e.g. without polarizers). In my PhD I will investigate switching modes in which the generation, annihilation and/or movement of defects and disclination lines are utilized.
