Project description

This project investigates whether ‘obscurity’ (in contrast to clarity and distinctness) plays a significant role in Descartes’ natural philosophy. I argue that, where is obscurity in Descartes, it will be most prominently in his physiology, and that there is no monolithic explanation of obscurity. Rather, it may arise in various ways in the absence of clarity and distinctness.
