Research Aims and Approach:

1. To design and deliver rigorous research that is independent of any involvement or financial contribution from gambling industry actors, thereby ensuring a transparent analysis that is athlete-centred and driven by athlete rights.

2. To adopt an interdisciplinary and international perspective that maps and comprehensively analyses the state of knowledge and practice in the field of sportspersons’ gambling addiction, inclusive of the gendered nuances of athlete addiction and the scale of the problem in women’s sport.

3. To provide evidence-driven insights and recommendations to prevent gambling addiction in sportspersons and promote the integration of public health principles in the funding, design and delivery of all protection programmes pertaining to gambling harm.
