Project description

Nursing practice is evolving continuously and faces numerous challenges such as an aging population, multimorbidity with allied complex care needs, and an increasing shortage of healthcare personnel. The recently amended legislation governing the nursing profession, including the roles of the advanced practice nurse and the general care nurse, assigns several important additional responsibilities to these nursing profiles. A significant change is the ability of advanced practice nurses to independently diagnose and develop treatment plans—this includes prescribing imaging and blood tests, blood products, and medications—within a specific area of specialization and based on formal agreements with physicians. This presents numerous opportunities for implementation research into innovative care and competency development in various areas of specialization, where these additional responsibilities can be optimally utilized and evaluated to ensure quality care.
