Project description

Generally, speakers with a foreign accent are judged as less trustworthy, less educated or less intelligent than native speakers. This negative bias seems to have different origins: linguistic and and social. The project will investigate 1) how foreign accent bias affects cognitive processes, and 2) the modulation of the foreign accent bias by social stereotypes and its consequences in the brain.

Role of Ghent University
The project is hosted by Ghent University, and is supervised by Prof. Hartsuiker from the Department of Experimental Psychology.
