Een infectie met PRRSV veroorzaakt een viremie gedurende een maand en kan op het einde van de dracht aanleiding geven tot transplacenteir spreiden, fetale infectie en abortus. In het huidig projectvoorstel wordt gezocht naar het mechanisme waarmee het PRRSV doorheen de placenta spreidt, waarom dit alleen gebeurt op het einde van de dracht en hoe het finaal komt tot abortus.
