De gist Candida bombicola is in staat tot de productie van sophorolipiden moleculen met een hydrofiele suikergroep gekoppeld aan een hydrofobe vetzuurstaart. Deze structuur geeft de moleculen oppervlakte-actieve eigenschappen met mogelijke industriële toepassingen. Dit project heeft tot doel de lengte van de vetzuurstaart te wijzigen door in te grijpen op specifieke C. bombicola enzymen betrokken in de sophorolipidensynthese
