Project description

This project focuses on the public behavior of the elites of the tenth to twelfth centuries to investigate the competitive aspects of the Peace of God-movement. Ritual arguments referring to the Peace were shaped by ecclesiastical and lay agents in the pursuit of advantages over their competitors. A chain of such ‘performances’ represented the social aspirations of the elites.
