Project description

The aim of this project is to further develop and characterize the novel capacitive based soft pressure sensor of CMST, for which a patent application was filed (cfr Section 'Current Status'). We have identified a number of interesting use cases for this sensor (e.g. pressure sensing interface for orthoses and exoskeletons, robotic hand development) but the aim is to create a toolbox including designs, materials, stack buildups, interconnection methods,.. to be able to tune the pressure sensor characteristics to the specific requiremements of a wide range of applications. The aim is to examine the effects of the used materials, and created 3D-structureon the characteristics of the sensor, in order to shorten the design time of an application specific sensor. Characterization of the sensors will be done in order to know/tune the stability, softness, hysteresis, creep, reaction speed, … Finally, we will realize a demonstrator by integrating the sensors in a glove.
