Project description

With more than two decades of expertise, we've focused on unraveling the local immune response in allergic Rhinitis (AR) and Chronic rhinosinusitis with (CRSwNP) and without nasal polyps (CRSsNP). Local IgE production, eosinophilia and a Type 2 inflammation are typical characteristics of both AR and CRswNP. However, there are two striking differences in the mechanisms underlying these diseases. IgE synthesis in AR is skewed toward allergen specific IgE. In contrast, IgE in CRSwNP tends to be ‘polyclonal’. We've curated an extensive biobank containing diverse patient-specific data, encompassing comorbidities, medical and surgical history, medication usage, patient-reported symptom scores, family history, genetic and molecular data, as well as nasal tissue and secretions. By combining clinical outcomes with multi-omics data across various upper airway diseases, our goal is to unravel the mechanisms underlying AR and CRS and translate these discoveries into enhanced care for our patients.
