Bio
A graduate of Ghent University (Master in Classical Studies with a minor in English Literature and Master in Media and Communication Studies) Esther De Smet has been working at her alma mater since 2003. After digressions into educational policy and knowledge management she joined the Research Department in late 2010 where she has been working as a senior policy advisor ever since. Her work focusses around three closely linked areas: societal impact of research (developing the institutional strategy, fostering impact literacy, and coordinating several initiatives such as the network of impact officers and the societal value creation fund), information management (previous co-lead on the research management system GISMO), and research communication. She is a member of numerous (inter)national impact-related networks and advisory committees, and a prolific speaker and trainer. Esther is deeply committed to creating a stimulating and nurturing research culture at her university and making sure its research has a real world impact.
