I am currently working as a PhD student at the EQTIS research group (Empirical and Quantitative Translation and Interpreting Studies), a part of Ghent University's Department of Translation, Interpreting, and Communication. For my dissertation, I am working on a number of experimental and empirical studies concerning the occurrence of so-called 'default translation patterns' during translation and interpreting, under the supervision of Prof dr. Evy Woumans and Prof. dr. Bart Defrancq. More concretely, this means we are collecting online process data using eye trackers, keystroke logging, and EEG, in which we aim to identify those stretches of the translation and interpreting process where target language production runs smoothly and requires only limited cognitive effort. Hence, this approach focusses less on instances of active and deliberate problem solving, and tries to broaden our view of these processes. As far as my education goes, I obtained a B.A. in Applied Languages (Dutch, English, Spanish) from Ghent University in 2019 and went on to study at KU Leuven's Antwerp campus, where I graduated with an M.A. in Literary Translation (Dutch, English, Spanish) in 2020. I then went on to pursue an M.A. in Literary Studies, an interuniversity programme from which I graduated in 2021. At present, I am also enrolled in Ghent University's B.Sc. in Psychology.
