Description
The Centre for Pedagogical Studies on Early Childhood Education and Care focuses on the development, implementation, and dissemination of fundamental scientific research on education and care for children aged zero to six. The centre views the family and child-rearing, in the broadest sense of the term, as societal constructs shaped by their ecological, socio-economic, historical, political, and cultural contexts. Central to its work are the complex relationships between the private sphere of the family and the public sphere of society, as well as the interventions within those relationships. The centre aims to contribute to scientific, societal, and political discussions and debates on topics such as early childhood provisions—including childcare and preschool—parenthood, parental leave, family structures, divorce, adoption, parenting support, and more. It achieves this through empirical research that places the perspectives and meanings attributed by children and parents at the forefront of its inquiries. By establishing explicit connections with (inter)national research communities and collaborations, the centre emphasizes the importance of an interdisciplinary and integrated approach to pedagogical research on Early Childhood Education and Care.
