The Institute for Psycho-acoustics and Electronic Music (IPEM) is the research centre of the Musicology Section of Ghent University. IPEM provides a scientific basis for the cultural and creative sector, in casu music and performance arts, and carriesout pioneering research work on the relationship between music, body movement and new technologies. The center's focus is on embodied music cognition and expressive interaction with music, such as listening, performing, conducting, dancing, sporting, and physical rehabilitation.Interdisciplinary methods are developed based on music theory, performer-inspired analysis, advanced behavioural and neuroscience empirical experimentation, statistics, and computer modelling. Findings are applied in several domains: music education, rehabilitation, sports activities, and arts.
