Research in social epidemiology, health promotion, health care and related domains can benefit from a more theory-driven health sociology approach. Building on institutional theories, on life course research and on critical and social realist perspectives, we want to critically reflect on the more distal, fundamental social causes of health behavior in the different domains covered by the research in our research group, Hedera-Health and demographic research@UG.
