Project description

Cell culture is one of the most important, if not the ‘corner-stone’, tool used in (Bio)medical research. The advantages of tissue & cell culture are numerous. Safety, reproducibility, precision and environmental  impact of the executed experiments are  key. More, cell culture is instrumental in avoiding needless animal/pre-clinical testing.

A cell culture laboratory has specific requirements and hazards associated with manipulating human or animal cells and tissues, as well as toxic, mutagenic solvents and reagents. Therefore a state-of-the- art cell culture facility shall dispose of good quality infrastructure and materials and also will dispose of high-quality  lab instruments to enable the correct adherence to standard microbiological practices and techniques.

TC3 (Tissue Cell Culture CORE lab ) in the newly build research building on Campus UZ Gent will cover over 200m2 and will accommodate up to 30 researchers from any the faculty and beyond to perform preparatory, functional and advanced cell culture activities in centralized or satellite cell culture lab units. The requested equipment here will form the back-bone structure of this CORE Facility.
