Project description
To generate energy, mitochondria build their own machinery, using mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) as a blueprint. Mutations in the mtDNA are rare, but lead to severe and progressive diseases often with fatal outcome. In this project, we will design molecules which stabilise defective nucleic acid components of the mitochondrial translational machinery. In addition, we will attempt to specifically remove mutant mtDNA.
