Project description

From March 2024 to August 2024, STAM (Ghent City Museum) will host an exhibition about Ghent's agricultural heritage, largely based on Ghent University research (i.e. PhD research by Hans Vandermaelen and Esther Beeckaert and the interdisciplinary research collaboration in the Stadsacademie on the place for agriculture in cities). In this valorisation project, the Stadsacademie wants to, parallel to the STAM exhibition, organize a series of debates to (1) take on a coordinating role in conducting a social debate based on scientific insights (2) take on a coordinating role in building of bridges between the exhibition, completed and ongoing UGent research on this theme and society, and (3) valorise the interdisciplinary collaboration in the Stadsacademie on agricultural heritage. The Ghent lands are invariably the subject of discussion, but at the same time also function as a microlab for issues of global importance.
