Purchase of a coring platform and coring equipment for the retrieval of long (~20 m) sediment cores from lakes, in order to establish high-quality reconstructions -i.e. with sufficiently high temporal resolution and extending sufficiently far back in time - of past changes in climate, in ecology and ecosystems and of past catastrophic events, such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and/or large floods.
