Project description

A new and integrated way to use fermentable substances and produce biochemicals in a bioelectrochemical system is presented. Organic waste can be converted to medium and longer chain fatty acids at the cathode by a change in process environment. Simultaneously, through an anion exchange membrane, these carboxylates are separated from the cathode to the anode, where they can be recovered.
